Dear COPE Fathers,

You are thought of and remembered by COPE on Father’s Day.

You are still a father even though your child isn’t here with you.

It is a day I honor my husband who was and will always be the wonderful father of my children. I am a mother because of him and I am eternally grateful to him for the precious gift of our children. Although we are separated physically, we are all connected in heart, soul and spirit.

My husband grieved the loss of our daughter very differently than I did. Even though he was less apt to speak of his feelings of loss, I knew how much he hurt.

Father’s Day without a child is just as emotionally heartbreaking for a father as Mother’s Day is for a mother.

My heart goes out to all the fathers in COPE who have lost a child, and all children who have lost a father.

What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us. – Helen Keller
